UAE private-sector growth hit its strongest pace since 2024 in August 2026. Here’s what rising business demand could mean for workers, freelancers and taskers.
The UAE entered September with encouraging economic news. Business conditions across the country’s non-oil private sector improved at their fastest pace since December 2024 during August. The latest S&P Global UAE Purchasing Managers’ Index rose from 52.7 in July to 55.3 in August, comfortably above the 50 level that indicates economic expansion.
Even more importantly, companies reported a substantial increase in new business, stronger output and improving customer activity. For businesses, that means more demand. For workers, however, the story is slightly more interesting.
More Business Does Not Always Mean More Full-Time Hiring
Despite stronger activity, employment softened. Reports based on the August PMI showed that hiring fell for the second time in three months, even as new orders and output accelerated. That does not mean jobs are disappearing across the UAE. It suggests that some businesses may still be careful about permanently expanding payrolls, even when customer demand increases.
And that creates an interesting question:
If companies need more work completed but do not immediately hire more permanent staff, who handles the extra demand?
